In 1946, Noel Thomas Wealleans, a farmers son and milk delivery contractor, began spreading bulk fertiliser from the back of a truck. He was convinced that our land had the potential to become one of the best farming areas of the world and that fertiliser held this key to success.

The first major breakthrough in Wealleans early years came when ‘Tom’ won a government contract to groundspread fertiliser on thousands of acres of newly cleared pasture in the Central Plateau area from Mangakino to Taupo using his converted ex army Chevrolet 4x4 truck.

Nearly 60 years on, the company he founded – N.T. Wealleans Limited – is the largest privately owned Groundspreading Company in the southern hemisphere.
